Memorial Day 2013
On May 30, 2013, we held our Memorial Day Service. Local celebrity and rancher Bill Johnson was our guest speaker. He spoke on the Vietnam was and his experience with the poor welcome our nation gave to its returning veterans. Among his personal experiences were being run out of a cemetery during a funeral for a helicopter pilot. He closed his speech by discussing the Vietnam Wall and the way people go there to make rubbings of the names on the wall.
Other highlights included music by Jim Quinzer and the pot-luck afterwards. Unfortunately, due to the rain, we were unable to walk out to the cemetery. Normally, we decorate the graves after the service. Unfortunately, the excessive amounts of rain made it impossible, especially with our unpaved road.
We held our first Memorial Day Service in 1919 in memory of First World War veteran Jean Pearl, and have continued to do so ever since.
